Richmond & Wayne County Criminal Defense Attorney

A former elected Wayne County prosecutor, now accepting clients in the courts I know best.

If you have been arrested or charged with a crime in Richmond or anywhere in Wayne County, you want an attorney who already understands how these cases work. I spent three decades on the other side of these cases, in this county. I understand how criminal cases are charged and how the State builds them. I know how they move through the Wayne County courts, because that work was my responsibility.

Now I use that experience to defend people in the county where I spent my career. Because I worked on the charging side, I can anticipate the prosecution's strategy, identify where the evidence is weak, and spot where a police investigation fell short. That is the difference between a lawyer who is guessing and one who has handled these cases from the inside.

The Wayne County Courts

Criminal cases in Wayne County are heard at the Wayne County Courthouse, 301 East Main Street in downtown Richmond.

Depending on the charge, your case may be assigned to one of several courts in the same building:

  • Wayne Circuit Court, a felony court.
  • Wayne Superior Court 1 & 2, felony courts.
  • Wayne Superior Court 3, handles felonies, misdemeanors, and traffic offenses.

The court your case is assigned to matters. Judges differ in how they schedule hearings, how they approach plea agreements, and how they handle pretrial motions. Two people facing the same charge can move through the system very differently. I have practiced and tried jury trials in each of these courts and can tell you what I expect to happen in your case.
